Weekly Production Log 4- Unit 22 Single Camera Production

Me and my team has started filming now filming we first started in house in the diner where our film would start this would be our first location and introduce the family of three.  My filmed 2 scenes in house the diner and the kitchen. The kitchen would take place after scene two where there would some of horror atmosphere and suspense as there would be knifes in the second scene.  The first scene would take place with all free character only for another to disappear the second scene only takes place with three of the family member showing how much of the character is a psychos. My team experimented a lot on what position the camera positions would suit for the scene to correlate what what’s going on in scene. My team deiced to start with a basic medium close up and angle of eye level camera.

For the second scene in the kitchen it was suspenseful so we wanted one of the actors to act scared about to be killed.  My team  used a camera high angle so the audience can pity the character being killed off and to feel sympathy.

For the second location my team recored in park in the middle of the night. The only real problem was that the park was closing soon. It also started to rain so we the camera lens could have gotten wet while recording for our short film and we had no umbrella to cover the camera lens from getting wet while recording.  My team deiced there would only be one voice playing throughout the short film so the tension increase with a serous narrators voice.

Weekly Production Log 3- Unit 22 Single Camera Production

From the end of our dissection in our last meeting we knew that we needed to change something’s, as they just wouldn't work so we had to change a few more things. At the end for the discussion my team deiced to start off fresh we would still have the genre aspects and the characters but we deiced to change the plot. We also deiced to remove the ghost and rename the story the happy family. After awhile my team came up with the idea that this family was falling apart and was really unstable and that’s why we renamed it as it would have different plot.

My team and I chose to remove the doctor from the short film entirely we just wanted to concentrate on family of three only we get more of intent ration between the three. We also removed the hospital scene as some of my team member just thought it was possible to pull off.

My team thought that this other idea and changing would be easier and convenient I thought the total as I thought that our ordinal story was more solid but the minority of vote was that we change the story.

Analyzing sound techniques and single camera production

There are so many skills used and movies that you might not be aware about I’m here to tell you about some of these skills used in movies.  For this task I will choose three movies and the topic will be about single camera production and sound techniques used.

I will first start by talking about sound techniques.  The movie first movie I have chosen to do an example on is the dark knight. In this one-minute clip of the movie the dark knight there is a very slow and low rhythm in the background.  In the short clip there are two people talking and the music in the background keeps building up like a drum beat the scene is becoming more intense by the second you get two see people getting pointed a gun at their heads with a scared look on their faces. This is to show how the character is feel at that moment even with them talking.  There is only one person talking with throughout this whole clip about his past.  From his dialogue you can clearly understand that the joker had a metal health issue when he was at a young age given by his short backstory.  As he keeps talking he uses a man as an example of what happened to him by putting a knight in the persons mouth and slowly push the blade against the person inner check.

Music is building up and gets higher creating more suspense. As soon as the joker ends history the music end with a really high bang effect. This was to show how terrifying this scene was and make more intense how the person died in the scene as he had blade in his mouth not being able to do anything, as there were other people with guns around. One of the techniques used here is diegetic sound. Diegetic sound is a sound technique which only the audience can hear and not the characters in the movie this technique is used in the production of a movie.  I would say that is skill is used to create mostly suspense to a movie. I think this because it makes a movie feel much better then it is and also creates a better atmosphere for the people watching the movie.

Another movie I have chosen is the transporter 3.  This is almost a four-minute movie. But in the background you hear a lot of sound effect in the fight scene to ear how much people are getting hurt. The back I think is to represent the main character of the movie and his calm sense when fighting every one surrounding him in this clip. It’s a great way to the audience focused what is on is happening. The hit impacts in this movie are all diegetic as it’s just a movie and not a real fight after all it’s a movie all the special effect they used for the sound was after the production.  You get a drums in the background going slow, fast and stops for a few second and continues again for the action and overall the audiences entertainment.

Single camera production is a video, which is basically only recorded with one camera. Single camera production can be used in movie, shows and more. Single camera are not used as often as multi camera as multi camera are mostly done by high budget movies. While single camera movie often have a very low budget. Single camera is often used in movie to create more realism to a movie then a multi camera movie as much as possible.

The benefits of using a single camera would be that it creates a more believable world in the movie no matter the movie. It cost less as you just buying only one single camera it also take less editing with a single camera. Single camera also using tracking shot something you rarely see in multi camera movies and show.  Sometimes the single camera recording is has jerky movements in them making movies and TV shows a little armature and unprofessional as the camera might be movie with someone carrying it.

Show that I have decided to use, as an example is the modern family. Most TV shows now are days are multi camera, which does make this show stand out from the normal crowd.  The show doesnt always relay and cut and edit like most multi camera movies and shows. It also zooms in and moves around while recording without cut and edit.  Movement is needed in movie and TV shows because without them looking at something in one angle would be boring.

There some movies that use tracking shot through the movie but most often these movies are unprofessional and honestly boring to most people. Movies such as troll, rec, area 51 and more. These movies stand out from the normal, as it seems like you are there through out the movie experiencing everything that they are going through kind of like 3D effect but better since every thing seems like it’s in first person.

Weekly Production Log 2 - Unit 22 Single Camera Production

My team and me had a falling out and had got into a giant argument.  We kept on discussing on what would work in our short film and what wouldn't. One of the arguments stated was that we couldn’t have ghosts in our short film. I came up with the argument that if we were to just make solemn look fade and make the actor look pale as if they were dead it would work. At the end for the discussion my team deiced to just focus on our locations instead.

We also needed to work on other pieces of work such as call sheet, risk assessment and release forms.

We also deiced that since it’s just a four-minute film we shouldn't have too many scenes. We chose about 4 locations house dinner, graveyard and a park. We deiced to have a graveyard, as a character would die. We deiced on a house because the film will be about a family. The park wasn't really needed but it sits it showed character traveling from one place to another in a short period of time.  the other would be a hostile was a family member as one family member would be hurt

Regulation

The British Board for Film Classification (BBFC) is responsible for checking whether films released in the UK are suitable for audiences. Some reasons why films are banned could be for violence, racism, sexual references and swearing.  An example of a film that has been banned is A Clockwork Orange. It had many violent scenes that upset audiences.

Weekly Production Log 1- Unit 22 Single Camera Production

In my team first meeting my team and me wanted to discuss the matter of how our film should our film what genre our film should be.  After sharing each other idea we decided with mine.  The genres were horror, psychological and mysteries. we deiced to have at least have a cast of 4 character a family of 3 and a doctor.  it began with a main character the son of the three waking up from a long coma. Over time the main character learns of what happens while he was asleep and so do the audience making the atmosphere of the four minute movie engaging over time while the audience keeps on watching. we first deiced to call it the borderland seer as the main progonist  would be able to see life and death (ghost) as he wakes up from his coma.

I think that we were not creative enough when came to ideas it's as if we were just rushing past everything without really considering the flaws in my story even though i believe that my plans as achievable.
