Unit 22 assignment 1 single camera format

Series and serials can either be a movie or even a TV show.  Most often TV shows are serials like the James bond TV shows, Sherlock homes, and American dad. It’s as if the episode before that had no impact on the character starting with a band new blank sleight to the TV show or movie narrative.

Series carry on a story for more than one episode or movie which can carry then for a very long some TV have even been running for over 20 year and still haven’t ended to this very day.
The advantages of Series on the other hand take the time to build up their characters so that the character can feel somewhat realistic to the audience.

Some example of shows for series would be the Dare devil, breaking bad, American horror story which are great example of audience getting to know the characters better and what type of person the characters truly are. You may know the characters almost like an acquaintances and this is one of reason the audience watches series they feel more engaged into then a serials because they have to put time and effort to understand the story and character where this will go by the end of the TV show or movie. Series can also lead the audience to like characters in series more than serials because they the character for a longer time then the serial this may lead the audience to be really attached to them and even relate to them in some sort of way.

Series like the dare devil  is a prequel  that has the main character had a normal child later to be in an accident that leaves him blind changing his life forever along with him becoming an orphan.  Later In the series you see that the main character has grown up and becomes a lawyer of justice.  This can easily be represent that people can become great at anything as long as they don’t let anything get in their way and this is represented by his disability of not being able to see which he doesn’t let get the best of him. You begin to get attached to this character if you agree with his morals of life and people. Now if dare devil was to be a serials it wouldn’t be so different as its most about the main character help people each episode and solving question and overall being a hero but there would be less character development for the main character and for there to be a great of overall story
The advantage of watching serials is that you don’t need to follow the story each episode.

So you don’t need to watch the first episode to know what is going on and since it’s a standalone episode or movie it can make the audience satisfied as it’s just one depending story by itself. Depending on your taste you may like serials over series. But why is this?  Well serials only have one story so there is no sequel to that story and no continuation to it either. Some people like a short story and takes less of the audience’s free time then series do so they get to do other things instead if they don’t have so much free time  to watch series. Serials often have a closed ending to each TV episode or movie ending while series often leave the audience with a cliff hanger each episode which some audience are not too pleased about making some of the audience unsatisfied of a series episode or movies that get a squeal.  So for audience that have a very short attention span would probably watch serials they don’t much thinking and dedications to them.

Weekly Production Log 5- Unit 22 Single Camera Production

My team had finished reoccurring all the scenes needed. We then started to edit the films by our selves. We used a program called final cut pro, which allowed me to edit the short clips.  I began by putting intro of just the title, which was called The Happy Family. I also added a hollow yet dark sound over the title to brings some fear to the audience making them get prepared for the movie as a message to the audience that movie isn't fait of heart.

I realized that there were a few mistakes my team and I did while recording but there was nothing we could do about that. An example would be one of the actors holding a cup in his left while holder a knife in their right and the clip that follows is the actor holding both objects in the opposite hands. Other than that there were no other mistakes I could find. What I deiced to do was to make the story none linear while my team made linear. What I ended up doing was using the last clip and putting it first which was of a man kneeling at a graveyard. What I then did was do a black and title it a few weeks ago to notify the audience the film will go back in time.

By doing this I added some sort of miseries and for the audience ask them selves why is an old man at a graveyard in the middle of the night.  By there the film goes forwards to get to where the film first started were the old man kneeling before the graveyard is kneeling at his daughter graveyard after murdering her.  There is also a little time skip in the middle of the movie the where one of the family member just saddest disappear. What I did by time passing by I did only black with a giant clock ringing symbolizing time some time has gone by even though it's still in second scene.  I added as much atmosphere I could by putting in sound and clips that matched with one another as some didn't make any sense, which I was having differently with.

Weekly Production Log 4- Unit 22 Single Camera Production

Me and my team has started filming now filming we first started in house in the diner where our film would start this would be our first location and introduce the family of three.  My filmed 2 scenes in house the diner and the kitchen. The kitchen would take place after scene two where there would some of horror atmosphere and suspense as there would be knifes in the second scene.  The first scene would take place with all free character only for another to disappear the second scene only takes place with three of the family member showing how much of the character is a psychos. My team experimented a lot on what position the camera positions would suit for the scene to correlate what what’s going on in scene. My team deiced to start with a basic medium close up and angle of eye level camera.

For the second scene in the kitchen it was suspenseful so we wanted one of the actors to act scared about to be killed.  My team  used a camera high angle so the audience can pity the character being killed off and to feel sympathy.

For the second location my team recored in park in the middle of the night. The only real problem was that the park was closing soon. It also started to rain so we the camera lens could have gotten wet while recording for our short film and we had no umbrella to cover the camera lens from getting wet while recording.  My team deiced there would only be one voice playing throughout the short film so the tension increase with a serous narrators voice.
