Unit 22 Genre

In every movie there is a genre. Theses' genres have convention in them meaning things are expected in them.  Movies have a theme, which the audience expects into be the movies, which contains certain mise en scene. These conventions are also part of what makes a genre what it is. For examples of a convention in the action genre are things like fights, explorations and guns these are type of things which what are conventions.

Science fiction

In the science fiction genre the conventions that are to be expected in it are space, spaceships, aliens, futuristic and abnormal atmosphere.  These are generally targeted at people that love movies such as start wars, which are among some of the best classical movies, which people still talk about to this day with over one million fans. Many people including me can also consider conventions cliché but it's one of things that make that genre and add to movie, which can be important as might remove from the plot and settings.

The star wars conventions contain things such as laser guns, aliens and space. Star wars is greatly known for the science fiction genre if the science fiction genre was ever removed from it then it wouldn't be much of a movie as the plot and science fictions both needed to make sense.   Appeal of a movie like star wars is that it isn't realist it the total onsite which is fiction. It's for people that are looking for escapism, which almost every audience wants.  It's to take a break from reality and instead look things that are non realistic. The science fiction genre is for people that like to see thing that are abnormal and out of this would as present most of originality we see in movies.

Horror genre

While with the horror genre you expect conventions such as murderer, monsters, victims, friends, family, abandoned house and blood.  A movie, which contains theses horror elements, is the movie Scream. The movie contains the genres such as horror the main aspect of the movie along with other genre such as slasher, mystery, thriller and crime film.

The movie scream takes places 1 year after the after Sydney's mother death. Soon after she and her friends start getting calls from a psycho killer who is out to kill Sydney and her friends. This movies contains a lot of violence, blood, swearing and death.

The conventions that appeal here for the audience are suspense and dark themes it deals with in the movie. It's also done in a realistic way which can be relatable to the audience as you can also personal identify with the character of the movie. This makes the audience think what they would do if they were in the character positions making more scary and for the audience to also engage more while watching the movie.

Romance genre

Last but not least the romance genre. In the romance genre you always expect in the conventions department you always expects thing such as kissing, argument love and young people. This would appeal to the audience as this one of the strongest relationships you can have with someone else. It can also be relatable to people that also have partners, which can be also be personally identify with a character in a movie and their love story.

One of the movies I've decided to talk about is the Titanic and the genres it contains are romance, epic, disaster and historical. This movie is full of excitements along with being of the most emotional movies. This is because of the relationship between the two main characters Jack and Rose. The two first start as just stranger who are from total different worlds. While Rose is an upper class citizens which thinks the world is cruel and that she can't decide live her life. Jack on the hand represents what it means to be free and is not afraid to speak his mind or act on his actions without hesitating and is a low working class citizen.  Both of the character builds up a strong bond in such a little time they know each other. This doesn't only represent young love but also what means to be young and fall in love.

The strong message that the director lives behind is if you truly love someone then you sacrifice your self for the person you truly love. This one of the reason why the audience for romance appeal to them because it often has a strong message of love which one of the strongest emotions that someone can have.  While romance genre isn't the most exciting or interesting genre it is one of realistic aspect done right in a movie.

Narrative structure

Narrative structure is one the most important things when it comes to any movie or TV show as it wouldn't really make sense if the story was everywhere with a lot of flash backs and flash forwards every second. So when comes down to how a movie represents itself and its story line it can make the viewer judge the movie before they have even completely watched and they are 10 minutes into it. By at least the first 20 minutes of a movie a director has to come up with an interesting ideas in how they want the viewer to keep watching on or otherwise it can be a boring and long movie to get through and most people just wants to sit down and relax when they have a stressful day. A movies is part of that entertainment we get when we have free time and this why a narrative structure should be somewhat be clear in what it’s trying to do and make the viewer even stick around to keep watching the whole movie until the very end. There are 5 narrative structure the equilibrium, disruption, recognition, repair, new equilibrium.

Equilibrium is the starting line of narrative story where everything is normal and everyone is going on about their daily lives. Everything at this point should introduce the main cast of characters.

The disruption is the opposite of the equilibrium where something is wrong and it need to be solved and things are not as they should be this also where the adventure starts. This can be when an evil antagonist appears in the movie.

The recognition is founding out the source of the problem and knows how to deal with if think of it like an equal sign in math.

The repair is resolving the problem this is the climax of a movie which can be some kind of giant battle this is also the most exciting part of the movie.

The new equilibrium is like the equilibrium but some might be different after the story has ended this is this is the new normal.

The movie that I'll be using so I can show you an example of a narrative structure is frozen an animated movie by the company Disney which was released in 8th of December 2013 and has sold over $1.219 billion at the box office and is known for being the fifth money made movie.

First of you get introduced to the main characters Elsa and Ana living about their normal daily lives as princesses this is the equilibrium. At the start of the movie you see Ana waking up her sister Elsa to play with saying “Do you wanna build a snow man?” This set up the start of the movie how everything is cheerful and happy for the start of the movie equilibrium.
Second phase would be when Ana’s and Elsa’s are playing and then by accident Elsa strikes Ana in face with her ice magic causing Ana to be unconscious. Another that Ana's and Elsa's parents die years pass by and later on Elsa loses control over her powers. This is the disruption as thing are not as they use to be and have changed because of this.

Risk assessment

This is the risk assessment for my film; it is essential to have a risk assessment. Many film companies fear trade unions that work as an insurance for those who wish to sue film companies for breaching the risk assessment. It is a document given to everyone involved with the production, this is from the bouncers and runners to the cast and crew, it helps with many things such as ensuring that everyone is safe and they know what the risks are which are involved with the film. My risk assessment was done knowing that although it isn't like the real thing I have to treat it as if it is. Considering the props in each scene we have put together potential hazards that might occur, and then what controls we will use to avoid this happens. This way if any accidents happen then we can present this risk assessment as a cover for the protection of our film.

Unit 1 Assignment 1 Legal Issue and Regulations

I think that the media institution is responsible for movies which rate the age of the movie and when movies and TV are shown at a certain time on TV at all times. They also can ban a certain scene from movies, TV programs and adverts. If the BBFC finds a certain scene too graphic for the younger audience they may cut it out or banned the movie if it contains nudity, indecency, sex, violence.  The BBFC contains five which universal which is for everyone young and old and there’s PG which is parent guide which mean that there maybe scenes unsuitable for the younger audience.  12 is just an icon showing that the movie is only for 12 year olds and over and the same goes for the number 15 icon. 18 is the last icon which means adults only and no else under the age should watch it. For example in some country GTA has been banned as it’s a violent game and people blame the GTA games for making people more aggressive and violent overall.

Games are movies are rated before they are in cinemas or in stores. so when trailers are shown in adverts it's to know the age rating of the product so the young and older audiacen can be aware. so before the audiance decides to buy or watch something they what the product may contain just by the age rating alone and it is also a warning.

The BBFC take in the genre of the product also which can determine the age rate.  so if it was an action movie with blood, death and bad language most of the BBFC members would probably judge it as age 18. This would mean that people of the ages of 18  and over are only allowed to see and play this product as a result. while a genre family movie would probably be comedy and  animation and would be rated U as in for everyone of any age.

A movie of this example would be Creed.
The genre of the movie is Sports, action and drama.
Age rating for this movie is 12A meaning that 12 year old can watch this with their parents.
The release date is 19/02/16
The movie length is 2 hours and 13 minutes
The director of the movie is Ryan Coogler

The description of the Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) never knew his famous father, boxing champion Apollo Creed, who died before Adonis was born. However, boxing is in his blood, so he seeks out Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and asks the retired champ to be his trainer. Rocky sees much of Apollo in Adonis, and agrees to mentor him, even as he battles an opponent deadlier than any in the ring. With Rocky's help, Adonis soon gets a title shot, but whether he has the true heart of a fighter remains to be seen.

Single camera vs multi cameras film festival

I think that using a single camera would beneficial to the film festival more than using multiple cameras in the short film festival. I think this because it would cost much more money if we were to buy multiple cameras it would cost more. If we were to just buy one single camera than we wouldn’t have to spend as much money and instead use the money to get other more important resources for the film festival.Another reason would be setting up the cameras if we were to just use one single camera then it would take less longer to set up all the equipment and record for the film festival.

It would also less long to set and on top of that we would be able to film outdoors unlike multiple cameras where we wouldn’t be able to actually record our short films. The biggest reasons why we should use just one camera is that we could film outside so we have more location to film from and whole lot more space.

We could also use the money that we saved not buy more cameras but instead helping and supporting the film festival itself. We could instead buy props or costumes for the actors or even buying a very popular place for a day so that more people can see our film festival and we can gain a greater reputation with the audiences. So if we ever have another film festival it would be bigger and better than ever.

If we were to just use single it would be better as we would have a lot more time mostly when recording and editing. If we were to use multi cameras. Shows like the big bang theory, how I met your mother, modern family, x factor and more. The point is that we would stick out from the group be known as individuals. Another reason to use just a single camera is for more realism and that’s what some of the audience would probably want instead of using multi cameras and making it none realistic. There are some really good shows that have use only one single camera and have been very successful. A show that only use a single camera would be The in between us which is a British show it was so successful that it even got two movies.

I can understand your view why you would want to use multi camera we are more likely to be successful with the film festival but I still think it’s worth at least trying the use single cameras once first. We would also only have to hire one cameraman which means also means that we use less money as a result.

Single camera also uses better camera eating techniques unlike multi cameras which are bit of a struggle compared to single camera which way easier.

These are all the reasons why I think we should using single camera I think that you would agree that using single cameras are for the best. Trust me when I say you won’t regret it. As people creating the film festival we should try our hardest to keep the audience entertained so we can hire people to get the word out when the film festival will start and what location. So we should try and premotor our selves by putting posters in very popular places so lots of people are likely to get more audiences.

If we were to put our poster some were like an ally way not many people would come to the film festival. we could also make our very own website so people interested in the film festival may known all about it and the audience might not feel that it was a waste of time coming to the film festival.
